Multiphase Flow Analysis of Gear Pumps Using an Overset Meshing Method

A gear pump moves fluid by trapping it between the teeth and the casing. To simulate parts that turn through each other, an overset mesh lets a moving grid on each gear slide over a fixed background grid. That is the machine on this page. Turn it.

05 / How this page works

Solved, not faked.

The flow

The background is a potential-flow solution, the first thing an aerodynamicist learns. Every heading the lines bend around is a Rankine oval: a source and a sink placed in a uniform stream. Your cursor is a cylinder: a doublet, plus a vortex when you add spin. The arrows now on screen are the velocity field itself.

ψ = U·y + m(θ₁ − θ₂)

The method

Nothing is animated in the usual sense. Each frame, every streamline is integrated again from the left edge with a second-order step, so the picture is a pure function of scroll, pointer and time. Any state can be redrawn on demand, which is also how it was tested.

The build

Astro, static HTML, hand-written Canvas 2D. No animation library, no images, no trackers and no cookies. Fonts are self-hosted. Phones get the whole thing, recomposed. If you prefer reduced motion the page stops moving and loses nothing.

Spin is real too: lift follows the Kutta–Joukowski theorem, so the CL readout in the controls is the number a wind tunnel would give you.
